As a fur parent, it’s often hard to trust strangers to take care of our precious cats. The idea of leaving them home alone is unacceptable, so a plan needs to be made. Given a choice and no budget restrictions, we would actually bring our fur babies with us for vacations and long-haul trips. But in the real world, we are limited to a few choices on how to ensure our cats are healthy and safe whilst we are not around.

Choosing to place feline babies under the care of a cattery is a practical and sensible decision that most fur parents make. But before you sign your beloved feline up with the first cat accommodation you see online, here are a few pointers that you need to remember!

What are the facilities offered by the Brisbane cattery in your area like?

If you want your cat to enjoy their time away from home, make sure to select a cat boarding service in Brisbane that is spacious enough for all sorts of activities. An enclosure of at least 2 metres by 1.5 metres would be recommended. The cattery should be luxuriously appointed to offer your pet all of the luxuries of home while away on their holiday.

Choose a cattery that caters for a smaller number of cats at a time as this will ensure your pet receives better attention, is less stressed and is less likely to contract diseases from other cats.

Do they employ strict vaccination requirements?

A reputable Brisbane cattery will require all of its applicants to provide a  complete vaccination record of their fur babies. This is to guarantee that only cats with non-contagious diseases are boarded and no health risks are placed on other cats. The most common vaccines to be administered before cats are allowed boarding, are the F3 and FIV vaccines. Does the cattery have a vet on site for regular check ups and management of any ongoing medical conditions?

Do they have ample ventilation?

When you are taking a visual tour of the cattery you wish to board your cats at, ensure their is excellent ventilation. A small and crowded cattery can lead to disease and illness not only for your cat but to other cats as well. Ensure the cattery has air conditioning to keep your cat cool in summer, active waste gas extraction and preferably has feliway pheromone vapourisers in place to help your cat relax during their stay.

We hope these tips will be of assistance when choosing the best cattery for your beloved fur babies.
